A New Chapter for a Neighborhood Landmark: Introducing Raleighwood Veterinary Hospital

May 26, 2026

There is a certain magic at 2810 Brookwood Drive. Since 1976, these walls have been a sanctuary for Raleigh’s pets, guided by the steady hand and kind heart of Dr. Richard Cotton. For nearly five decades, Dr. Cotton and Brookwood Veterinary Clinic have been the heartbeat of our pet community.

As Dr. Cotton prepares for his well-deserved retirement, we are honored to announce that the tradition of care continues. On Monday, June 1, 2026, we officially open the doors to Raleighwood Veterinary Hospital.

Meet Your Neighbor: Amanda Jeffries, DVM

While the name on the sign is changing, the face at the clinic might already be familiar to you. Dr. Amanda (“Mandy”) Jeffries has spent the last four years practicing emergency and urgent care veterinary medicine here in the Triangle, and often working alongside the Brookwood team as a relief provider for Dr. Cotton, ensuring a seamless transition for the families who call this clinic home.

Dr. Mandy isn’t just a Raleigh local; she’s a product of the “Wolfpack,” having earned both her B.S. and her DVM from NC State University. Her journey has taken her around the globe—serving as a veterinarian in the United States Army at Dover AFB, Bahrain, and Ft. Jackson—before returning home to practice emergency and urgent care right here in Raleigh.

“Sit on the Floor” Medicine

At Raleighwood, we believe that the best medicine doesn’t happen from behind a computer screen or across a cold metal table. Dr. Mandy practices what she calls “sit on the floor” medicine.

“I believe in meeting pets where they are most comfortable. If that’s on a rug with a head scratch and a treat, that’s where we’ll do the exam. We are a locally owned practice in a world of corporate clinics, and our priority is the bond at both ends of the leash.”

We are blending this “hometown heart” with modern advancements. Raleighwood is updating our physical site to be equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic technology, digital medical records, and comprehensive surgical capabilities to ensure your pet gets “big hospital” medicine with “small clinic” soul.
